Sustainable Lighting Technology Institute, a five-day hand-on course on Lighting, conducted by the Regional Center for Lighting (RCL) in collaboration with its knowledge partner,Lighting Research Centre (LRC) of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA has been successfully concluded at The Palms, Beruwala, Sri Lanka.

Forty participants (of different disciplines; engineers architects, designers, planners) from twelve countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam) participated in this training program. Resource persons were Prof. Russel Leslie, Prof. Nadarajah Narendran, Prof. Daniel Frering and Prof. Patricia Rizzo from LRC and Prof Pahula Attalage, Dr. Nalin Wickremarachchi, and Archt. Narein Perera from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka

Regional Center for Lighting (RCL), along with its knowledge partner Lighting Research Center(LRC), of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, NY, USA, successfully conducted a three-day seminar and training on LED (light emitting diode) technology, operation, and application for lighting system and electronic component manufacturers in South Asia during the period June 29 – July 01, 2010, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The training was designed to meet the needs of engineers, technicians, and product designers/developers concerning electrical, optical, thermal, and other issues involved in the design, development, and manufacture of LED lighting systems and subsystems.

Prof.Nadarajah Narendran, Prof.Jean Paul Freyssinier , Dr.Yiting Zhu and Mr. Asiri Jayawardena from Lighting Research Center and Prof. Rahula Attalage, from University of Moratuwa presented the interactive seminar which included lectures, hands-on demonstrations of lighting technologies and workshop sessions. Fourteen participants representing lighting industry in the region took part in the seminar. They received three continuing education credits and an LED lighting certificate from the LRC at the conclusion of the seminar.

Regional Centre for Lighting, in collaboration with University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and Lighting Research Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY, USA, plans to conduct a certificate course for Lighting practitioners. The course will include classroom sessions, laboratory practice, design & field work and an individual project.

The participation will be limited to 15 participants. Priority will be given to South Asian participants while participants from other parts of the world too will be accommodated depending on the availability of seats.
